Edible sugar sea glass for cake decorating, beach themed cakes or cupcake decorating. This is made from isomalt to prevent melting issues, but it will still be affected by humidity. If you live in a hot area and your mail sits around for a while before being picked up, it can affect the sugar, so please watch the tracking on the package to see what day it's being delivered to you.
Each order is 3 ounces of sugar sea glass, which is about 5 square inches worth, depending on how big the pieces are. If you're not sure how many you need feel free to send me a convo to ask and I can help you figure it out.
The pieces range from about 1/4" wide to 1" wide, with most of them being between 1/2" and 1" wide. I can make them in any color that's listed in the selections at checkout. You can also choose a variety of colors if you prefer, and I'll make up an order from what I have on hand. If you don't specify a color I'll send a variety.
If you choose one color I'll send a variety of shades of that color. If you want a specific variety let me know by sending a note at checkout...For example, if you only want blue and green just add a note.
***PLEASE NOTE**** This is made from sugar, and will get sticky if it sits around for too long or if it gets hot or damp. I store the pieces for weeks without anything happening to it, but if it gets hot when it's in transit, then cools off, it can get sticky and change consistency.
If you need the sugar sea glass for a specific date tell me what that is, and I'll send it so that it arrives a couple of days before.
Each piece is individually poured using a mold that I made from real sea glass, including some from the beaches of Southern Spain and some from Florida. This isn't a sheet of poured sugar that's been broken into pieces. The edges are more rounded and look like real sea glass, not shards of broken glass. They range from clear to opaque just like real sea glass does, and they'd be a perfect colorful addition to any beach-themed cake.
These can be considered a choking hazard to small children, so be aware that they shouldn't be given them as candy. They're the consistency of a hard candy, so they don't dissolve right away when you eat them.
Making sea glass is usually done by breaking a sheet of sugar into pieces, but doing that results in very sharp edges!! If you want to make your own sea glass, you can use this mold to avoid razor-sharp shards: https://www.etsy.com/listing/118150470/silicone-sea-glass-mold-for-cake
This sugar sea glass is not meant to be eaten as a candy on its own...it isn't flavored, so it tastes like cotton candy-type cooked sugar, but I don't use flavorings in it. It's meant to complement a cake, so I leave it unflavored!
The sugar sea glass will be shipped with a ziplock bag with a silica gel packet, and should be stored in a closed container with the silica gel. Place them on your cakes before delivery or before serving to prevent the sugar from being affected by humidity. This is sugar, so heat and humidity can melt them!
